Salon POS, explained.

By Hamza Sajid, founder of VantaReach Technologies · Updated July 2026

A salon POS is point-of-sale software built for salon checkout. Beyond taking payments, it attributes every service to a staff member, handles split payments and discounts, issues receipts and feeds commissions and reports automatically.

Generic retail tills treat a haircut like a grocery item. A salon POS understands that every sale has a service, a client and a stylist attached, which is what makes commissions, retention tracking and anti-theft auditing possible. Must-haves: per-service staff attribution, split payments, discount controls with an audit trail, digital receipts and client history at checkout. Costs range from free (marketplace platforms that charge per booking instead) to $30-$165+ per month for subscription software; VantaReach includes its anti-theft POS from $49 per month, or PKR 5,500 in Pakistan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a salon POS and a normal POS?
Staff attribution. A salon POS records who performed each service so commissions, performance and client history work; a retail POS only records what was sold.
Do I need a POS if I have a booking app?
Yes, unless the booking app includes real checkout with staff attribution and audit logs. Bookings fill the calendar; the POS controls the money.
